What cooking facilities are available?
Our glamping areas offers a shared outdoor BBQ kitchen with stainless steel stoves, prep areas, and undercover seating. Fridges, freezers, microwave cutlery and crockery provided.
What Should I Bring
We provide linen, bath towels, and shower products. Guests should bring:
• Beach towels
• Drinking water (or purchase from the store)
• Personal toiletries
• Food if you plan to self-cater
Is there drinking water
Bore water is safe for cooking, but not drinking. Bottled water is available onsite, or bring your own.
Can I get food onsite?
Yes — enjoy the cafe for breakfast & lunch, or order dinner meal packs to cook in our shared outdoor kitchen space for dinner.
Castaways store stocks all essentials from bread and veges to milk and icecream, fully licensed.
Do You have power?
Castaways is off-grid and powered by solar and generators. Everyday items (phone chargers, lights, etc.) are fine. High-amp appliances (hairdryers, coffee machines, etc.) cannot be used.
What's the Difference between Island and Family Glamping
The Island Glamp is designed for couples or solo travellers and includes a King bed and private ensuite.
The Family Glamp is larger and includes bunk beds for children, making it ideal for families wanting the same glamping experience with extra sleeping room.
How do I get to Castaways
Castaways is located in Bulwer on the northern end of Moreton Island (Mulgumpin). You’ll first catch a ferry from Brisbane to the island (see next question), then either bring your own 4WD or let us arrange on-island transfers to take you from the ferry drop-off point to your accommodation at Castaways.
How to get to Moreton Island
You can reach Moreton Island by ferry or barge from Brisbane.
Passenger Ferry (Micat): Great if you’re travelling without a vehicle.
Vehicle Barge (Micat): Bring your own 4WD (note: permit required).
Private Boats – You can arrive via private vessel. There’s a beach landing zone near Bulwer.
Jetskis – Experienced riders often make the crossing; just check weather and tide conditions and arrive safely near Bulwer beach.

What Do I Need to Know?
Is there a petrol station on the island?
No, there are no petrol stations on Moreton Island, so fuel up before your ferry departs. Emergy fuel is available at the store in jerry cans. There is also recovery gear at the shop.
Is there a pharmacy or medical centre?
No pharmacy on the island. There is an island ambulance based in Tangalooma, with 4wd access across the island. In an emergy ring the ambulance.
Is there a supermarket or grocery store?
No large supermarkets. The Castaways store is your local hub — we stock a huge range of basics and island essentials from sand boards to snorkling gear, recovery gear, fishing rods and bait to souvenirs.
Is there mobile coverage?
Yes, coverage is generally good in Bulwer and near Castaways for most major providers. However, expect it to be patchy or unavailable in more remote parts of the island.
Is there public transport on Moreton Island?
No. Moreton is a 4WD-only island with no public transport. We offer on-island transfers for Castaways guests and can help organise island tours if needed.
Is glamping comfortable enough if I’m not a camper?
Yes. Our Island Glamps are designed for guests who love the idea of camping but prefer a few more comforts. You’ll sleep in a proper bed with quality linen, have your own private ensuite bathroom, and be just steps from the beach and café.
